Easy Healthy Grilled Recipes

Grilled chicken is arguably the healthiest meat there is. A four-ounce serving of boneless, skinless chicken breast comes in at around 120 calories. The majority of these calories come from protein (give or take 25 grams of the stuff) with the rest coming from a miniscule amount of fat (if we’re going with a serving of 120 calories with 25 grams of protein, then it contains 2.22 grams of fat). Your body will undoubtedly take a piece of grilled chicken and use it as muscle food. With so many ways to prepare chicken, though, some recipes are healthier than others.

White meat and dark meat are both considered healthy to eat. Preference aside, is richer in iron, zinc, riboflavin, thiamine, vitamins B6, and B12 than its white meat counterpart. While some people vehemently (replace vehemently with stubbornly if you'd like), there really are distinct differences in the nutritional content between, say, a boneless, skinless chicken breast and a slice of dark meat (with the skin) from a whole chicken. You’ll find that dark meat and chicken skin add a natural, healthy dose of fat to your meals.

If you were hoping that fried chicken was the healthiest way to prep your poultry, we’re going to go ahead and disappoint you right now — it’s not. Baking, boiling, and grilling chicken require little to no additives (you may spray a cookie sheet with olive oil if you’re baking poultry), and because of this, these are all quick and easy ways to get your chicken thoroughly and healthily cooked. Speaking of cooking your chicken thoroughly, you’ll want to make sure that the middle of a piece of chicken reaches 165 degrees F in order to render it safe to eat.

The following list contains 11 of our favorite healthy ways to grill chicken. Most of these recipes require a very marginal amount of elbow grease, making them easy and quick to prepare. You’ll notice very little added sugar, but feel free to experiment with removing sugar from these recipes or using a quality organic cane sugar. Additionally, you’ll notice that much of the added fat comes from olive oil, and a few of the sauces listed have a nutritious Greek yogurt base. Also, remember that you can sub and swap spices at your own leisure. Try one of these seasoning methods if you want more variety than the prescribed quick and healthy recipes.
