Are you grilling this weekend? What are your children’s favorite summertime BBQ foods?
Members of the Family Room blog team love to grill with their families during the summer months. Today, they’re sharing their own kids’ very favorite summer BBQ dishes and recipes. Whether you’re grilling for just your own family or an entire BBQ party, check out the family-friendly BBQ food and recipe ideas below for some summertime menu inspiration.
My Kids’ Favorite Summer BBQ Foods
Amy: My 8-year-old daughter is fairly selective when it comes to food. Her favorite summer BBQ foods are hamburgers (here are some great sliders recipes!), corn on the cob, and chips. My 3-year-old son is the opposite – he’ll try just about anything we put in front of him. One thing they both agree on is fruit so we end up making fruit bowls or fruit parfaits (with whipped cream) for most summer BBQ parties. One of our favorite summer traditions is fruit picking (strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches) so we typically have a bountiful for different recipes. Grilling up fruit kabobs is another great way to serve fruit in the summer.
Mary: Hot dogs. Does it get any easier than that? They really like corn on the cob too. Also, I like to try to incorporate avocados in our menu as often as possible in the summer (here’s a great recipe for avocado orzo salad!).
Allison: My daughter LOVES to make watermelon Jell-O! All you need are limes, water and watermelon or cherry flavored gelatin. Cut the limes in half and hollow them out, making a mini bowl. Place each in a cupcake pan. Make the gelatin and pour it into the lime halves. Refrigerate for a few hours, cut the lime halves in half and you have mini watermelon Jell-O!
Media Mom: S’mores. Plain and simple. Nothing better. We love to make them the old fashioned way over a fire, but in a pinch, we’ll make mini s’mores cups for parties. Or, another delicious option is baked s’mores dip!
